“My vision is to help every charitable organisation benefit from the transformative power of legacy gifts, and every individual find their purpose in making a gift beyond their lifetime.”
Petra’s professional focus is managing the transfer of value from Estates & Trusts which are left for the ultimate benefit of charitable causes. She does so using her legal expertise and commercial sense as well as her emotional intelligence and intuition, whilst avoiding delays, contention, high costs and reputational risk.
Having moved to the UK in 2005 from Czech republic she found a natural intersection of philantropy and law in her role as a charitable legacies specialist. Petra has a Master in Law degree from Charles University in Prague, and is a member of the England & Wales Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and the Institute of Legacy Management. She serves as a Trustee of two charities.
“With the growing awareness of what charitable legacies represent and the impact they make in communities and the life of the collective, my focus, dedication and respect to this work grows. My attitude has changed from being simply a professional administrator to becoming a trusted advisor, consultant, inspiring influence and a creative source for my charity clients and potential donors who are considering making a gift in their will to a charity.”
In the words of one of my charity directors, I activate the “Petra magnet”. My strategies invariably result in significant increases of legacy income for my clients.
Petra has worked with a number of national charities, such as Macmillan, Cancer Research, St John Ambulance, Royal Star & Garter Homes, The Leprosy Mission, Combat Stress, Action for Children, Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability, Royal Northern College of Music, Vision Foundation and others.
She currently manages the varied legacy portfolios for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Westminster, the Archdiocese of Southwark, Fight for Sight, Independent Age, Queen Elizabeth Foundation and Turn2us. In 2023 she was named as one of the finalists of the prestigious Legacy Professional of the Year award hosted by Smee & Ford.
We successfully build relationships with professional advisors and families to facilitate effortless transfer of value from the individual’s Estate to the causes they wished to support.
“Over the years, I have managed thousands of legacy cases and gradually became aware of the many aspects of legacies. There are technical issues to start with, but also the many ethical and emotional dimensions which are crucially important do understand and keep in mind whilst processing legacies.
I have been blessed to be able to speak to many people who wish to leave a legacy, and have come to understand with compassion the multilayered challenges many have before they are able to commit a part of their wealth to a cause they wish to support.
This makes me attuned to the complexities of the administrative process after their passing, especially when navigating the often sensitive family dynamics.
Acting as an executor myself made me realise that each Estate is a reflection of the legator’s life, its result. It will include all personal possessions and accumulations, but also all unresolved issues, debts and relationships.
I see my role in guiding private individuals towards how to best turn their wishes into a purpose beyond a lifetime, whilst carefully navigating the probate process for my charity clients.
